organizations & people who are willing to help

People hiking with llamas.

Southwest Llama Rescue, Inc (SWLR)

The purpose of this organization is to protect the quality of life and improve the well being of surrendered llamas.  SWLR is a group of volunteers that cares for, trains and finds homes for llamas and alpacas that are surrendered to Southwest Llama Rescue, Inc.  Llama owners may not have a place for their llamas as their lives change.  SWLR volunteers have foster care facilities throughout the western states to protect the well being of the llamas or alpacas that come into their care.

SWLR is a 501(c)3 organization established in 2001 that relies solely on private donations.  The website www.SouthwestLlamaRescue.org has current contact information of volunteers for your area.

We are a llama sanctuary located in Southwest Virginia on the Tennessee border, and are willing to offer support regarding the behavior, care, management and training of llamas. We have a portable chute for shearing and trimming toenails.

If we cannot help, we will try our best to find someone knowledgeable who can. We work with law enforcement and Animal Control  to help capture any "found" or escaped llamas and can  try to provide transportation to a temporary haven for them.
